MORCHELLA SP CULTIVATION

Mentored project for the sustainable cultivation and valorization of morels (Morchella spp.) in Aragón:

The cultivation of socioeconomically valuable mushrooms using local strains from Aragón is not yet developed and represents a significant opportunity for rural areas. It also constitutes a clear sustainable action for climate change adaptation, helping to ensure a reliable supply of fruiting bodies, which is increasingly uncertain in wild populations. The FUNGIVERSO project aims to support entrepreneurship linked to the cultivation of high-value species that can also serve as a mycotourism and gastronomic attraction for local restaurants and mushroom enthusiasts.

To achieve this goal, a local entrepreneur with experience in morel (Morchella spp.) cultivation, based in Sarrión (Teruel), will launch a pilot project for the sustainable cultivation of morels in a forested area of the Montes Universales, located in the Albarracín region (Teruel). This project will establish a cultivation plot integrated into the woodland, enabling mycotourism visits to observe the fruiting of these species and, in the near future, the commercialization of these mushrooms to local restaurants, adding value to the local product and boosting nearby trade.

This mentoring cannot be carried out due to the professional departure of the entrepreneur who was to lead the project and the lack of rural entrepreneurs engaged in the cultivation of morels or other local Aragón species.

Compensation Action:

Create a technical guide in digital format explaining the fundamentals for the proper sustainable cultivation and valorization of morels. This document will serve as a foundation for future entrepreneurs interested in this type of cultivation and will be presented during the final results event proposed in the project.
