BIOMATERIALS

Mentored Project for the Use of Fungi as Biomaterials:

Fungi possess a wide range of characteristics and functions in natural and social environments, but they also have lesser-known capabilities, such as replacing non-recyclable materials or degrading plastics and other substances. This represents a significant opportunity, and the FUNGIVERSO project will support a local entrepreneur specializing in these types of uses of mycological resources, with the aim of creating a marketable product that can substitute for other non-eco-friendly materials currently widely used.

The goal is to develop a pilot project focused on the production of mycomaterials to serve as eco-friendly packaging for local products, increasing their value and socio-economic appeal for consumers. To achieve this, a female entrepreneur in Aguaviva (Teruel) specializing in the use of fungi as biomaterials for packaging will be involved.

This mentoring cannot be carried out due to the absorption of the entrepreneurs by a large company. Furthermore, there are no entrepreneurs in Aragón currently engaged in this activity, making its implementation impossible.

Compensation Action:

We propose two compensation indicators and one compensation action. The two compensation indicators are: i) a document presenting the business idea, describing different prototypes made from fungal materials, and ii) a document outlining the final proposed collaboration between MicoAragón and the local company that is no longer active. The proposed compensation action is to include the description of the prototypes in dissemination talks and the final results event.
